| My Namesake Frederic Remington (1861-1909) The primary image maker of the historic American West Frequently, I have many people tell me that I have an unusual name. Most people usually assume that I was named after a gun; but to put all rumors and assumptions to rest this is not ture. I was not named after a Remington firearm but you are on the right track. In case you are curious, I am named after the American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer Frederic Remington who is known for his depictions of the American West. Remington, a native New Yorker, had a very illustrious career. More than likely, my love for all things Wild West comes from the spirit of the art that Frederic Remington created. To learn more about Remington and his accomplishments as an artist click here to be taken to the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, New York. Since I have always been a fan of Remington's art, I have included below a slide show containing a few samples of his well known paintings and bronze sculptures. My personal favorite is his bronze sculpture "Coming Through The Rye" which you will see in the show below. | |
